Open Country held its Good Access Scheme conference and awards, hosted by Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham – last year’s winners.
Delegates from many local and regional organisations met to share experiences, knowledge, questions and good practice, with a common mission to make our outdoor spaces as accessible as possible.
We toured the grounds to see inclusive improvements and initiatives. These included an inspirational woodland trail, with accessible benches and play equipment, a quiet area and a changing spaces toilet.
Discussions on the day included how to ‘bin the barriers’ which prevent so many people from enjoying the countryside.
The winner of this year’s award was presented to Debbie North of Access The Dales .
As well as being a passionate campaigner for access, Debbie’s charity has made all-terrain vehicles available to borrow at several outdoor locations in the dales including Malham and Ravenseat.
Thank to everyone who attended, including staff from
Yorkshire Water Experience Community CIC RSPB Fairburn Ings The Land Trust North Yorkshire Council .
