The Tour de Yorkshire came to Harrogate on Saturday 29th April and Open Country was there to greet it! In between the Women’s and the Men’s Race finishes, our intrepid tandem riders did several laps around a circuit of Harrogate Town Centre, raucously cheered on by the appreciative crowds. Nineteen triumphant tandems took to the streets, even including a sleeping dog in a trailer! After our exhibition of two-saddled prowess, all the tandem riders enjoyed the Fan Park and got a grandstand view of the Men’s finish from a vantage point right next to the finish line. All in all it was a superb day out and the crowds seemed to enjoy it almost as much as we did. At the very least, we hopefully gave a very clear message that cycling is for everybody, not just lycra-clad elite athletes like us! The Open Country Tandem Clubs meet in Harrogate, Ripon, Wetherby and York from April to November and we are always on the look out for more riders, be they disabled or non-disabled. Join in the fun!
